That’s right folks, this is the last News Letter of 2025, and ending snowy and cold. This News carries over from last Sunday 12/21, as The United Methodist Church continued a Community Event, “Carols and Candles” that took place at the Montgomery Historical Society for a few years. Scott Perry and the Board Members had a wonderful program they provided involving talents from the Community, to come and share their singing, dancing, reading of Christmas stories, poems etc. Once I read the Fall Newsletter put out by Scott Perry, that they were not having the C & C Event, I said to our Pastor John Gorton, Why don’t we do it? Why not? John and Scott discussed things about the event, I contact Renee Davidson a teacher at the Elementary School to involve kids to sing for us. Renee and John put together a wonderful program and it was a huge success, our Church was filled and we enjoyed refreshments of donuts and cider. Hope to do it again next year. Thanks for everyone that contributed their talent in keeping this Event Going On.
Penny was on her phone and while searching around, she said Mom, Anita Mayhew has passed away. This past year while visiting a dear friend of ours at “Lady of the Meadows” in Richford, Anita was in the hall waiting to go for lunch. I stopped to talk with her but she did not remember me at all. Now her son Jimmy used to drive around town with his Mom and one day while I was on the Village Park he pulled over and we had a nice visit. Sonny and I and the Mayhew’s, Baker’s, St. Onge, Robitailles, were together so much of the time playing tarts, having house parties, Etc. Memories they linger..and they were fun times. I worked at the Village store for Gorton and Anita when I first moved down to the Village from No. Hill. Gordon taught me how to run all the meat machines, cut up meat, and I think I could still do it.
Another person from Montgomery has passed..and that is Todd Pennell, has resided in Enosburg for the past few years. His daughter Kerri and my Grandson were married, but since parted, they have 3 little Boys growing up, and they live in Colorado. Sending Our Condolences for these Families, Sorry for their losses.
Today. 12.25..Hope everyone has had a wonderful Merry Christmas. We have been blessed with a white Christmas, almost had me wondering if we were really going to have a white one as the first of the week the weather warmed up had some rain and 50 degree temperatures, the snow went fast, except the snow banks. But Mother Nature had other plans for us, and it has snowed and snowed replacing all that melted, having a white Christmas, Just like the ones I have always know. I do remember a few years ago before moving down here we had a green Christmas..and for a Vermonter that is weird. Sonny was able to work outside with the small John Deere crawler at the end of North Hill Road helping to build the huge house for our Canadian Friend, in the early 60’s. Now the house has been taken down..all gone. When the house was built, the owner loved the stone work on the lower part of the house..garage area. He wanted more stone to go up to the roof and after it was completed, the weight pulled the floors forward in the house and then what? The builders had to put cement blocks so to keep the house from falling down. It was beautiful inside with the huge fire place, picture windows, hard wood floors..etc. It was a second home for them.
Today we had planned a family gathering for Christmas Dinner, hoping Veronica, Samantha, Natalie, Shane and His Girlfriend Lily could come and join us. Penny had purchased the meat for everyone, and vegetable; I had made a huge Potato Casserole, and Cranberry steamed Pudding for dessert with a hard sauce to serve on it. We had the table all set for the seven of us, the food to warm up was heating up in the oven slowly, when a phone call came in, it was Veronica..they were just in a white out snow squall on route 100 C and decided to call off their trip and return home. Of course we wanted them to remain safe, as the roads became treacherous. They must have been following the storm..soon after we finished talking, the storm arrived here, could hardly see across the street. Just Knowing Everyone was safe it became a very Merry Christmas to all of us..with our LOVE for each other the most precious GIFT.
EVENT: The Montgomery Winter Market on January 18, 10 am- 2 pm. Held at the Town Hall, Montgomery Center. Lots of goodies available.
12/28..Our Sunday Church, Service was prepared by John Gorton and he came to officiate, entitled his service “ God At Work.” We had a few guest come with their Parents, and a couple stopping in to share the morning service with us, as they share another Church in the area..but we remain Friends and they are always welcome, to join us. It’s such a beautiful sunny afternoon, Penny had been out on her snowshoes and just came in, with her nice rosy cheeks, She enjoys getting outside, and going for a walk.
Happy Birthday to: Kathy King, Leo Hambleton 1/5/26; Chris Brigham 1/9/26.
