SWANTON, Vt. — A 39-year-old Swanton man has been cited on a charge of possession of stolen property after Vermont State Police recovered a bicycle reported stolen nearly a year earlier from the University of Vermont campus.

State police said they received information at approximately 12:15 p.m. Aug. 13 from Paul Lemper, 20, of Burlington, who reported that Bryan Pigott, 39, of Swanton was in possession of his bicycle.

The bicycle had been stolen from the UVM campus in September 2025 and the theft was reported to the University of Vermont Police Department, according to state police.

Troopers from the St. Albans Barracks contacted Pigott as part of the investigation.

Police said they established that Pigott was in possession of the bicycle belonging to Lemper. The state police release did not say how Pigott allegedly obtained the bicycle or specify its value.

Pigott was issued a citation to appear Sept. 29 at 8 a.m. in Vermont Superior Court’s Franklin Criminal Division to answer to a charge of possession of stolen property.

He was not lodged, and no bail was imposed.

Trooper Christopher Blanco of the St. Albans Barracks investigated the case.

The charge is an accusation, and Pigott is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in court.
