I started my Monday the usual way, but had an interesting message Sunday, from my neighbor Frank Elkins, as he keeps an eye on the park lights, better at his house than I can at mine.
The solar lights that were put on the flag pole are out, the sensored light up in the tree is out. I called Charlie Hancock our Chairperson on the Selectman’s Board, he said he was away at this time but would take care of this, when he returns. It would seem weird not to have Christmas lights out there, but we will all do our best.
Tuesday morning we all woke up to a winter wonderland, 8 inches of snow white bending down the lilac trees, the fir trees around town, AND a huge amount of snow to shovel. The 500 Card Club had asked to use the Fellowship Room at the Methodist Church, as some roads do not get plowed, or not everyone had their winter tires on. Anita Woodard was the hostess for the meeting and she came at 11 a.m. to get all refreshments inside
and her card tables. She went right to work..organizing before everyone arrives at 11:40 on. Once everyone is in they each help themselves to the refreshments and soon they get seated to play 500. Winning scores were high Carmen Scott, second high was Anita, most horses Marge & Connie they might have split the pot, low score was Stacy Gregoire. Brent Godin came in to Sub for Lois, who was subbing for Sue Peters. Yep, it all worked out, The afternoon was calm most the time but got wild with more snow flurries and the whipping wind..temperature was going down with the sunshine. as the meeting ended. Everyone got home safe and sound.
Wednesday, the day the Bowling Teams get together in Lowell, Sue Peters picked me up a bit early as she was leaving her car up to the garage to have winter tires put on while we went bowling. We then met up with Elsie Saborowski and Patty Perl, and we were off. for a few hours, came home in a snow shower. Going to the Center there were turkeys out in the corn fields that were looking for food, must have been 30 or more, then again near the Mercy farm there were many many more, coming home where the turkeys had been were 6 deer eating. I guess I am getting to the end of my news notes.
Thursday.was our Senior monthly meal at the Dairy Center.where Lise Gates has planned a Thanksgiving Dinner. I have several of my nieces that have become acquainted with my Friends from Montgomery, and join with us. We always have a good time. This time during the tea cup auction, a fellow wasn’t winning anything, so he got up to leave and gave me his tickets, I looked over the numbers and heard one number mentioned..I had won a bag full of nice Christmas cards, 4 2026 calendars, and a pair of gloves, soon another number was on the tickets I had and there were 4 puzzles. That was a special moment. I did not know the person that gave me his tickets.
Howard and Kathy King’s Family and Friends were gathering at their home from November 13 – 15. On Saturday night 0f the 15th their were 13 for supper,7 members of the Tetreault family coming from Florida, Kansas, & Connecticut; 4 members of the Blier Family from Conn.; Cody Farnsworth..from Conn.; Colby Marshall from Vt., Linda Blier stayed at the house with Kathy; the men were off to deer camp. As usual everyone enjoys getting together to catch up on their life, sharing memories and enjoying Kathy’s & Howards home cooking and hospitality.
On Sunday 11/16 we had storm warnings of freezing rain snow showers, throughout the night and early in the morning. John Gorton had prepared the Sunday Service and entitled his sermon ‘Rejoice Forever In Creation.” There were 6 regulars absent today. But our snow showers lingered throughout the day into Monday morning bring us 6 more inches of white gold.
Keith Longmore cameto see me as he and a friend are going to have a local newspaper for our surrounding towns. I mentioned this today at the senior luncheon by Parma, and everyone seemed so happy about the News, Keith wants me to continue to do my Montgomery News.
