BERKSHIRE, Vt. \u2014<\/strong> Drivers traveling east from Berkshire toward Richford and Jay should keep an eye on a major Vermont Route 105 highway project involving more than seven miles of the important northern Franklin County corridor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The Vermont Agency of Transportation project begins about 2.5 miles east of the Berkshire-Richford town line and continues 7.381 miles through Richford toward Jay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Plans call for substantially more than simply laying a new coat of pavement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to VTrans, crews will mill the existing roadway before reclaiming and pulverizing remaining pavement and underlying material. Gravel will be added in some locations, followed by another reclamation pass and the addition of a stabilizing agent. The rebuilt base will then receive new pavement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The work matters to Berkshire residents because Route 105 serves as the community’s principal east-west connection. The highway runs through East Berkshire before continuing to Richford, while Route 118 meets Route 105 in the village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Route 105 also links Berkshire westward with Enosburg Falls and eastward with Richford, Jay and communities farther into the Northeast Kingdom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Separate VTrans work in Enosburg includes resurfacing portions of Routes 105 and 108.
